Panteha Abareshi
PIECES OF THE PROBLEM BODY
ABSTRACT
I will be creating an experimental video art piece with an original sound composition. this work will be inspired by an extensive body of research into the Sick/Disabled body as fetish object, and the fundamental erotics of the abjectified, objectified body. Shot on super8mm and VHS, this piece will capture my body navigating the violent gazes enacted on it- and provide a poignant examination of the intersections between them. The male gaze, the ableist gaze and the medicalized gaze form the cage in which the Sick/Disabled body is endlessly trapped within. This work will deconstruct these gazes, and provide an imaging of the sick/disabled body amidst questions of autonomy, control and power(lessness).
