DIES / DEVICES FOR ARTISTIC ACTIVATION AND DIGITAL SPACES

INTRODUCTION

DIES is a programme of artistic activities and processes designed to create new digital spaces for interaction, knowledge exchange, and as a laboratory of ideas in response to the need to enable new production scenarios and to raise the visibility of the cultural and creative sector, within a context of control and restrictions on both social relations and mobility. A hybrid digital and in-person device which gathers together the experience acquired during the Arte ⇆ Territorio, network residency programme, and the ADD + ART congress, ART AND SOCIAL SPACES IN CONTROLLED, UNCONTROLLED AND ISOLATED TIMES.

The proposed lines of work which were meant to take place during the residencies and the congress were deployed instead in the form of a webinar and workshops, in order to investigate and to consider the production and formalisation of contemporary artistic practices, taking into account the paradigm shift caused by the pandemic, and magnified by political drifts and their future consequences on the rights of freedom of association, or of mobility.

Art-based research and artistic practices themselves have been clearly affected by a new geopolitical order with strong restrictions on mobility, of special relevance in those activities related to specific contexts, and which engage with social spaces. Bearing this in mind, this project proposed the following lines of research (related to the global framework of the Art and Territory 1 programme, and to the research of the ADD + ART 2 and 3 Conference:

1- ART - TERRITORY. Temporary and dynamic residencies of contextualised and localised production. Mobility in times of crisis, remote residencies. Collaborations without borders. What is the new reality for all practices based on social action?

2- SPACES - DEVICES. Other “structures of location” to display, exhibit, contextualise, or socialise. The creation of new virtual environments, connections, networks, E-learning, shared action platforms. What strategies should be deployed in relation to production and exhibition?

3- DECODING - ACTIVATION. Research, expanded performativity, content digitalisation. Innovation, new audiences. What challenges and advantages are there in the new action protocols?

MAIN OBJECTIVES

- To open a plural space for action and knowledge exchange, to promote the understanding of visual and artistic culture.

- To promote the digital dimension in disseminating, restoring, and producing new knowledge content that can be circulated and shared more widely with the use of graphic and sound digital tools.

- To create an accessible project-based space and laboratory of ideas.
